Project Engineer – Overseas

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: PROJECT ENGINEER

To ensure effective communications between the project’s operational, procurement and planning
activities, so as to ensure that the project is completed on-time and within budget.

MAIN JOB FUNCTION:

To communicate with subcontractors concerning the preparation, management and direction of their
various functions, ensuring the project is completed on time and at the price budgeted and agreed upon;
and meeting all quality parameters. Monitoring the progress of the job, identifying and resolving any
problems that may occur and which may entail variation orders and value engineering proposals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

  1. Prepares and controls project documents and information, specifically responsible for the
    dissemination of project information to key personnel
  2. Manages and acts upon all variations to the contract, assessing all cost and time implications
  3. Prepares method statements for site use as directed by the Project Manager
  4. In conjunction with the Project Manager and Construction Supervisor, carries out contract
    administration activities, including reviewing and placing contracts with subcontractors, and formally
    notifying subcontractors of start dates and any other important project information
  5. Raises and responds to Requests for Information (RFIs); Confirmation of Verbal Instructions (CVIs)
  6. Develops and manages the material “submittal” process including specifications/cut sheets and
    maintenance manuals
  7. Drafts all contractual correspondence to suppliers, subcontractors and “Engineer” in conjunction
    with the Project Manager and Construction Supervisor and hosts subsequent discussions on proposal
    submitted, to obtain clarifications and ensures compliance with contract specifications.
  8. Prepares material listings for construction works as required
  9. Prepares progress reports of projects as required
  10. Monitors the Quality of construction works ensuring compliance with design specifications.
  11. Ensures effective maintenance of Project Site Diary with all contemporary records to facilitate pursuit
    of any time and cost claims

    Health, Safety and Environmental Management

  12. Promotes the safe and efficient operation of the Project Site
  13. Ensures HSE hazards related to the Project Site’s facilities and operations are identified and adequate
    resources applied to manage the HSE related risks
  14. Ensures implementation of all HSE policies and procedure
  15. Ensures all incidents are effectively investigated and periodic HSE audits facilitated
  16. Performs other related duties as may be required by the job function.

Requirements

Education:
  • A first degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution
  • Knowledge Auto-cad and other project-based software programs

*Additional Post Grad Certifications in Construction would be an asset

Experience:
  • Five (5) years post qualification experience; must have functioned for three (3) of these at the level of Project Engineer
  • Familiarity with generally accepted construction principles and practices
