Trinidad

Accountant

Main Job Function

To perform a variety of professional level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying and reconciling complex financial transactions, statements, records and reports and to maintain the accuracy of the Company’s accounting financial systems; assists in the maintenance of budgets, audits and year end closing and provides financial information to management staff. To liaise with Financial Institutions, Clients, Suppliers and Regulatory Authorities as and when required to effectively maintain cordial working relationships.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Financial and Management Accounts Reporting

  1. Prepares monthly Management Accounts and other ad-hoc financial reports as
  2. Reviews and approves monthly bank reconciliations as well as Creditor/Debtor reconciliations resolving any discrepancies
  3. Manages the External Audit process, preparing all schedules and reports
  4. Ensures all balance sheet accounts are periodically reconciled (GL reconciliations).
  5. Closes and changes the monthly/yearly accounting periods on Peachtree as necessary, reconciles the Peachtree monthly Expenditure Report & Job Profitability Report and prints reports from Peachtree as and when

Budgeting and Cash Flows

  1. Prepares and monitors all financial plans, Project and Operational cash flow forecasts and
  2. Recommends process improvements within the Department to improve financial and document processing as deemed

Taxation

  1. Ensures compliance with statutory requirements and payment of VAT and taxes when

Payroll & Payables

  1. Reviews and approves KCL payments, re. Subcontractors, Pieceworkers, Truckers, Security, Fortnightly and monthly Payroll, Petty Cash, Creditors, Miscellaneous Suppliers and Credit

Receivables

  1. Reviews and approves all Client invoices for
  2. Monitors the collections of such receivables to ensure prompt

Insurances

  1. Monitors and keeps active and in-force the Company’s Insurances – Workmen Compensation, Public Liability, Property All Risk, Motor Vehicles, Electronic Equipment, Equipment and Contractors’ All Risks

Departmental Oversight

  1. Supervises the staff complement of the Accounts Department and facilitates timely communication and interaction with other department managers, Bankers, Suppliers and other external parties towards ensuring accurate management of information as well as an efficient and effective Accounts Department

Requirements

Education:
  • A professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Sound understanding of Management and Financial Accounting
  • Knowledge of Peachtree Accounting will be an asset
Experience:
  • A minimum of ten (10) years post qualification experience
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Construction related accounting experience is highly desirable

  • Possess sound understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant accounting packages
