Site Engineer

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

To provide technical advice to subcontractors and supervisory staff on the job site so as to ensure that the project is completed on time and within quality and budgetary constraints.

MAIN JOB FUNCTION

To perform technical, organizational and supervisory duties involved in setting out and determining the location for above and underground infrastructural installations required for the project; applying designs and plans to mark out the site and acting as the main technical adviser for sub-contractors and operators on the site

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Establishes in conjunction with the Site Supervisor, the setting out of the works ensuring compliance with the Client’s specifications.

2. Ensures that there are sufficient levels, datums and grids and general information for the Sub-contractors to work.

3. Gives technical advice and interpretations of the drawings.

4. Be responsible for the regular servicing and calibration testing of all site instruments, and for the maintenance of records in respect of same.

5. Keeps records of excavations, concrete pours, and additional reinforcement requirements, etc.

6. Carries out any survey of the site that may be required.

7. Liaises with the QA/QC Technician in respect of all structural materials testing requirements, including concrete cubes and soil compaction.

8. Co-ordinates technical details liaising with the Professional Team and Subcontractors.

9. Checks Subcontractor’s setting out.

10. Inspects work for quality throughout the Contract ensuring accordance with job specifications and standard construction procedures

11. Prepares As-Built Drawings as necessary.

12. Inspects work for defects, and ensure rectification of same, prior to completion of Inspection Report and presentation to the Project Manager and the Client.

13. Prepares requisitions for call off materials, e.g. concrete, timber, reinforcement etc., on the advice of the Site Supervisor.

14. Prepare short-term target programmes for own area of work, complete with material, plant, and labour resources.

15. Assists the Project Engineer in ensuring that the Engineer’s drawing file is maintained, up to date and in order.

Health, Safety and Environmental Management

16. Promotes the safe and efficient operation of the Project Site

17. Ensures HSE hazards related to the Project Site’s facilities and operations are identified and adequate resources applied to manage the HSE related risks

18. Ensures implementation of all HSE policies and procedures

19. Ensures all incidents are effectively investigated and periodic HSE audits facilitated

20. Performs other related duties as may be required by the job function.

Requirements

Education:
  • City & Guilds, BTEC, Edexcel, HND or BSc Civil Engineering
  • Knowledge Auto-cad and other project-based software programs
Experience:
  • Five years post qualification experience
  • Familiarity with generally accepted construction principles and practices
